In August 2017, Hurricane Harvey made landfall as a devastating Category 4 hurricane, causing catastrophic flooding and significant destruction across Texas and Louisiana. The storm resulted in over 100 deaths and left countless communities in dire need of assistance. Upon seeing a viral photo of elderly residents in a senior citizen home, stranded and knitting in chest-high water, my friend Justin Borum and I felt compelled to act. We immediately drove from Los Angeles to Texas to offer our help.

Upon arrival, we joined forces with first responders and the Cajun Navy, a volunteer group known for their bravery and quick response during natural disasters. Together, we focused our efforts on the hard-hit areas of Vidor and Beaumont, Texas. Our tasks ranged from delivering emergency supplies to coordinating rescue operations and assisting stranded residents. The spirit of the community and the dedication of volunteers were truly inspiring, demonstrating the incredible impact of collective efforts during times of crisis.
